Classic Caramel Apples Fall Wedding Edible Favors

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white granulated sugar.
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup.
  • ½ cup of water.
  • ½ cup heavy cream.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter.
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract.
  • Pinch of sea salt.
  • Candy thermometer.
  • 6 decorative lollipop sticks or popsicle sticks.
  • Parchment paper.
  • Nonstick cooking spray.

Directions:

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly to remove all the wax.
  2. Heat a medium nonstick saucepan over low to medium heat and add the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Do not stir; just allow the ingredients to melt and boil together. Cook until the caramel is a light golden amber and a candy thermometer registers 230 degrees, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Turn off the heat and slowly whisk in the heavy cream, butter, vanilla, and salt. Whisk until smooth, then allow the caramel to cool until it is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Insert lollipop sticks or popsicle sticks into the stem end of six apples. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  5. Dip the apples into the caramel to coat and allow the excess caramel to drip off. Roll in topping of your selection if desired, then stand on the baking sheet to dry.

It’s Halloween Wedding Season, so…  Surprise! We made you Brains in a Jar Cake!!  These are perfect Halloween Wedding favors for your guests to take home!

Brains In a Jar Halloween Wedding Favor Ideas

You will need:

    •  Seedless Raspberry Jam.
    •  Pink cake.
    •  Frosting (color of your choice for the brains).
    •  Piping bag fitted with a #5 round tip.

Once your cake is cooled, cut a circle of cake the size of your jar.

Spoon some raspberry jam over the cake, covering the surface and making sure it reaches the edges of the jar.

Put some frosting in your piping bag.  Hold the bag at a 90 degree angle and squiggle the frosting along the edges of the jar.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, just squeeze and make a zig zag motion along the inside of the glass.

It should look like this. With a smaller glass or cutter, cut a piece of cake small enough to rest in the center of the “brain frosting”.  Place the piece of cake in the middle.

That way you don’t go hurting your hand trying to pipe frosting all in the center. Holding the piping bag at a 90 degree angle again, loosely squeeze frosting all over the top of the cake. Just let it squiggle all over.

If it looks like a gross brain in a jar, you’re doing it right.

Haloween Wedding Ideas Food Prosciutto Meathead

Make the Perfect Meathead for Your Halloween Wedding Extravaganza

Make the Perfect Meathead for Your Halloween Wedding Extravaganza

This meathead centerpiece is a classic way to creep out your guests, they’ll talk about your big day for years! This gory platter is the perfect touch for your Halloween Wedding!

Haloween Wedding Ideas Food Prosciutto Meathead and Cheese Platter

Prosciutto Meat Head and Cheese Platter.

The concept is simple – drape thinly sliced, cured meat over a skull. But in case you are wondering how we made ours, here is the step-by-step process:

Step 1. Adhere a washed, plastic human skull to a serving platter using hot glue or nails. You can find plastic skulls in any large department store.

Step 2. Drill small holes into the center of the eye sockets sized to accept toothpicks. Alternatively, you could hot glue toothpick pieces to the eye sockets.

Step 3. Make the eyes using cocktail onions with embedded olives for the pupils. Attach to the toothpicks in the eye sockets. Pimento stuffed olives or those nuclear-colored maraschino cherries would work too.

Step 4. Drape skull with meat. Thinly sliced prosciutto works well. Something more red in color like hot capicola or chorizo would be cool. Make sure it’s sliced thin. Fat helps the meat stick to the skull.

Step 5. Add cheese, crackers, olives, or whatever you normally add to a meat and cheese platter.

Step 6. Enjoy your deliciously spooky meathead platter!

Note: If you do not want to use a plastic skull and want to make it all edible, carving a melon into a skull would be perfect before draping it.

Halloween Wedding Food Ideas Whole Wheat Witch Fingers

Witch Fingers (Whole Wheat/No food coloring) HalloWedding Idea

Witch Fingers (Whole Wheat/No food coloring) HalloWedding Idea

These whole wheat witch fingers use jam in place of food coloring! Not only are they healthier with whole wheat flour, but they taste great!!

Halloween Wedding Food Ideas Whole Wheat Witch FingersIngredients:
1 cup butter (226 grams), softened
1 cup (115 grams) powdered sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1⅓ cups (167 grams) white whole wheat flour or all-purpose flour
1⅓ cups (167 grams) white whole wheat flour,
whole wheat flour, or all-purpose flour
¾ teaspoon salt
¾ cup (105 grams) blanched almonds
½ – 1 cup (118 – 236ml) strawberry jam

Directions:

Halloween Wedding Food Ideas Whole Wheat Witch Fingers

  1. Beat the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add the egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract and mix. When well combined, add the flour and salt. When thoroughly combined, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 40 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Take about a fourth of the dough out of the fridge and begin rolling out the fingers. I rolled them out the size of my pinky, both in length and thickness. Add an almond to the tip for the fingernail and press down to make sure it’s secure. Form a knuckle by squeezing (see the picture above!) and then use a knife to make some creases. Place on a Silpat on a cookie sheet (or just a cookie sheet), leaving about a centimeter between them. Repeat with the rest of the dough until the cookie sheet is full.
  3. Bake for 17 – 22 minutes or until slightly golden. Let the cookies cool, and then remove the almonds from the cookies. Add some jam in the cavities and then put the almonds back, making sure you used enough jam for them to ooze a little. Also add some jam around knuckles for extra nastiness. I used about ½ cup jam and used the rest as “dip.”

Notes:

  • If you live in Germany, you need to use half Type 550 for the all-purpose flour and half Type 405 (which is the normal kind you find everywhere). You can get Type 550 at any non-discounter. For the almond extract, I used two vials of Bittermandel Backaroma.
